A blog carnival is a weekly gathering of blog-posts from around the net. It's hosted at a different blog every week, exposing the submitted entries to a broad audience of readers.

Want an example? The "Carnival of Capitalists" is one of many blog carnivals. It's about business and economics.

This blog carnival will focus on travel blogs. All submissions must be travel-related. One submission per blog each week. No blatant self-promotion, please. Submit entries by 3pm Eastern on Tuesday. The Roundup will be posted at the week's host on Wednesday.

We'll post the upcoming Roundup hosts here at this blog, and we'll note where to email your submissions.

Why create a travel blog carnival? Partially as an economic development experiment. Read more here.

Las Vegas' Big Hooters

The new Hooters Casino fits perfectly into Las Vegas' "Sin City" image. The attractive combination of gambling, booze and boobs has always been the allure there. While other mega-casinos have gone upscale and family-friendly, Hooters will be the haven for regular Joes out for a good time.

The intrepid Washington Post travel team has a review of Hooters Casino. Surprisingly (to them and us), they liked it. The hotel's makeover was a success, there are plenty of cheap slot machines, and lots of Hooters Girls bring you drinks. Lots of restaurant choices and an overall sense of humor make the Hooters Casino a winner.

More on World Cruises

There's a new article on world cruises at USA Today. The exclusive and lengthy voyages are drawing new interest as the market for far-flung destinations picks up. 2006 world cruises, which depart in just a few weeks, sold well, and there are new offerings for 2007. Never before has there been such a range of ship choices — from tiny, 300-passenger Silver Shadow to the world's largest cruise ship, the QM2. World Cruise Central has complete information on all of the world cruises for 2007.

November 17 Roundup

The November 17 Travel Blog Roundup will be hosted at the Mediterranean Cruise blog, purely because it's mine and an easy place to have the first one. Because the travel blogs are out there, and they could use a little help spreading the word. Those of us who enjoy reading travelogs also need help finding new ones.

So here we are, hopefully gathering tales of adventure, exploration and fun. Travel industry news is welcome too. This is about sharing your discoveries.

There's another reason we started this Roundup. In our little corner of rural Virginia we're experimenting with blogging as a supplemental income source for local families. The initial test has just a few participants who are creating blogs about their personal travel interests and experiences.

Blogging is interesting as a "micro" economic development strategy. Anyone with a computer and an Internet connection can give it a try. Use a free platform like Blogger and there's no overhead. The interface is easy enough for a child, senior citizen, or Phd to use. Make a little money with Adsense or affiliate programs.

Promoting the blogs is the trick. Hence the Roundup.
